It’s probably an understatement to say that 2020 was a disaster. Unfortunately, Disney World was forced to shut down the park from mid-March until mid-July. Here we are heading into 2021 and things are still far from normal at this point. The good news is that next year is shaping up to be a much, much better year as we put the coronavirus pandemic in the rearview mirror (fingers crossed).
In the meantime, Disney World is still undergoing it’s phased reopening. That means that some areas of the park remain closed for the time being, including some of the resorts. Let’s take a look at which Disney World resort hotels ARE open during this difficult time, and which resorts are slated to open later in 2021.

- All-Star Movies Resort – February 9th, 2021
- Polynesian Village Resort – Summer 2021
Looking Ahead
There have been no announcements about reopening plans for the remaining resorts. I think it’s safe to say that progress on the pandemic front will determine when Disney will have the confidence to open up the remaining resorts.
With the opening of these hotels, Disney has implemented numerous health and safety measures in accordance with local and federal (CDC) guidelines.
Disney points out that future reopening dates are still subject to change and existing reservations are subject to modification.
Guests should have confidence in Disney’s new protocols, but I would be remiss to suggest that there are no risks at all.

Safety Is Key
Disney had previously announced reopening dates for Disney’s Beach Club Resort and Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, but have since pulled back on those dates. They now say that these two resorts will remain closed until further notice.
In light of the current pandemic, there’s still a number of Disney Resort hotels – and other areas of the park – that are currently closed and not yet scheduled for reopening. Disney will continue to evaluate the safety of reopening these locations and will do so when the time is right.
They are monitoring the ever-changing environment and Florida’s case numbers and will adjust their plans as needed. Until the park is operating at full speed, there’s still plenty going on at Disney World.
All 4 theme parks are open and, as you can see, there are still over a dozen resorts open and accepting hotel reservations for 2021.
