Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney World and Disneyland
Preview of the new Star Wars-themed areas – Now Open!
Hey Star Wars fan – get ready to journey to a galaxy far, far away! As you may have heard back in 2015, Disney announced plans to construct a new Star Wars-themed area at Walt Disney World Resort’s Hollywood Studios and in Disneyland Resort’s Disneyland Park. Construction of Disney’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has been underway since 2016 and these areas are now slated to open soon. Disneyland’s area will open during the summer of 2019 while Disney World is scheduled to open during the fall of 2019. This is pretty exciting news!
The new lands “will introduce you to a Star Wars planet you’ve never seen before — a gateway planet located on the outer rim, full of places and characters familiar and not so familiar,” proclaimed Bob Chapek of Walt Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products. We don’t have all the details yet, but let’s delve into what we do already know about the yet-to-be-opened Disney Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge lands.
According to Scott Trowbridge, Portfolio Creative Executive, Walt Disney Imagineering: “These two new incredible experiences – paired with the land’s dynamic elements and optional interactive integration with the Play Disney Parks app – invite guests to become galactic travelers and live their own Star Wars stories in a galaxy far, far away.”
Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge will have many interactive components including an option for guests to integrate the Play Disney Parks app to immerse themselves in the Star Wars stories and become galactic travelers.
The Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is one of two new E-ticket attractions at both Disney’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge locations. In this simulator attraction, guests will find themselves behind the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon, the most recognizable ship in the Star Wars galaxy.
As part of the mission, guests will have one of three specific flight crew roles during the ride as they travel through hyperspace. The Millennium Falcon attraction is developed by ILM Experience Lab in partnership with NVIDIA and Epic Games. Buckle your seat belts – this one looks exciting!
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is second of two new E-ticket attractions at both of the Disney Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge locations. The attraction will place guests in the midst of an epic battle between the First Order and the Resistance, which includes a face-off with none-other-than Kylo Ren.
When you think about the Star Wars, you will likely recall that iconic music associated with the film franchise. The musical score of Star Wars was one of the highlights of composer John Williams career and the body of work that made him a legend. Well, in November 2018, we received some exciting news from Disney: Oscar-winning composer John Williams has be tapped to create the original Star Wars themes for the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge lands! Furthermore, the all-new, exclusive music was recorded by the famed London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios. Check out the preview of the musical score:
Scott Trowbridge commented on a new Star Wars themed resort in Hollywood Studios. He wrote:
“Adding to the galactic excitement, Bob [Experiences and Consumer Products Chairman Bob Chapek] shared new details about the currently in-development Star Wars resort coming to Walt Disney World. This groundbreaking experience is unlike any resort experience you’ve ever seen. From the moment you board your launch pod, it’s a fully-immersive, multi-day Star Wars adventure aboard a luxury starship complete with high-end dining, space-view cabins and all of the exciting action you would expect from an authentic Star Wars experience. I can’t wait to share more details for both Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and this unique multi-day adventure as we get closer to launching these projects”
To sum it up, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is an brand new, visually stunning, and enormous 14-acre land in Disney World’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland. Both lands will also feature two attractions that put you right in the middle of the intergalactic action, plus an adventurous outpost and an very promising Star War-themed resort. We hope you are as excited to experience this area because we think the hype is justified!
