This pandemic is complicating everyone’s Disney World vacation plans. Here’s how to prepare for Disney World during COVID-19

Reopening Disney World during a global pandemic is no easy task. The top priority of Disney officials is, first and foremost, to keep Cast Members and Guests safe from the virus. In order to do this, Disney officials must continually update their procedures and make adjustments on-the-fly in order to comply with local and federal safety guidelines.  Guests must do their part by socially distancing and wear masks and keep their hands clean. This article will go through the current state of Disney’s theme parks, restaurants, and hotels, and what you need to know if you are visiting Disney World during COVID-19.

Phased Reopening of Walt Disney World Resort – Current Information

Here’s the latest information on Disney World’s reopening, and what to expect when you get there:

NOTE:  This article was last updated in December 2021, and many of the screening/mask/distancing requirements listed below are no longer applicable.  For the latest information directly from Disney, visit the Experience Updates page.
  • Disney World’s four theme parks and Disney Springs are now open to the public.
  • A park reservation and valid admission for the same park – on the same date – are required to enter the park (for Guests ages 3 and up).
  • You’ll be able to link admission to your Disney account to start making park entry reservations online.
  • Besides the new park reservation system, other new measures include temperature screenings and face covering (mask) requirements.
  • Cast Members will check your temperature using no-touch thermometers before you enter the park. Guests with temperatures of 100.4 or above (degrees Fahrenheit) then you will be denied entry.
  • All Guests (2 years old or older) are required to wear a face-covering at all times. Dining and swimming are the two exceptions.
  • Social distancing is required inside the park. Physical barriers and ground markings are in place to help you navigate the property in a safe manner.
  • Hand sanitizer and handwashing stations are located throughout the resort. Guests are urged to make use of these frequently throughout the day.
  • At this time, a select number of Walt Disney World Resort hotels (and Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts) are open to Guests.
  • You can expect to find modifications at the theme parks, restaurants, Disney-owned hotels, and other offerings during the COVID-19 pandemic,  There will be limits in their capacity and each is subject to availability or closure.

What can you do to prepare for a Disney World vacation during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Disney has implemented health and safety measures to do what it can to keep you safe. But YOU are responsible for following the rules.

The risk of exposure to the COVID-19 virus exists in public places where people are congregating (like Disney World). Therefore, you need to take these rules seriously:

Enhanced Cleaning

Enhanced cleaning procedures can be found all throughout Walt Disney World Resort. Wash your hands frequently!

Physical Distancing

Disney has temporary adjustments in place to encourage physical distancing. Keep at least 6 feet away from non-family guests.

Reduced Contact

Certain experiences have been modified in order to reduce contact and exposure. Again, be smart, keep your distance, and wash your hands frequently.

COVID-19 Warning

As you are probably aware, COVID-19 is a very contagious disease. Infection can lead to severe illness and eventual death. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) has made it clear that senior citizens and people with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable. With this in mind, it may not be wise to travel to Disney World at this time.

As a Walt Disney World Resort Guest, are voluntarily assuming all risks related to contracting COVID-19.

Disney has set forth health and safety standards for its Guests and Cast Members. Sanitation and other cleaning procedures are in place, including:

  • Cast Members training (on a regular basis)
  • Defined and frequent cleaning of targeted areas
  • Handwashing facilities and hand sanitizer dispensers (highly visible)
  • Responsive cleaning crews for trash pickup and spills, etc
  • Sanitation procedures for kitchens, restrooms, and other facilities after the park closes to Guests
  • Frequent cleaning of walkways, queues, and other outdoor locations

Disney offers first-aid centers and preventive health services for Cast Members (free vaccinations, etc).

Officials will continue to actively monitor all of the public health information and make timely decisions based on the latest guidance from local, national, and international health organizations.
