Before we answer what country was removed from Epcot, here’s a bit of background. The World Showcase at Disney’s Epcot is a fascinating main attraction of Walt Disney World. Here, you can travel across the world, all within one easy-to-walk portion of the park. So if you’re looking to get a taste of the food, aesthetics, and culture of countries that span across the globe, then it’s a must-visit during your trip.

In all, you’ll find eleven pavilions at the World Showcase, with each pavilion dedicated to a different country. But what are those countries, and has a country ever been removed from Epcot? Let’s take a look.

What Country Was Removed From Epcot?

Let’s get one thing out of the way: there has never been a country that was removed from Epcot. All the countries that were originally there opening day — or added later on — remain in the park. The closest we get to a “removal” is perhaps Israel and Africa.

Back in the early ’80s, there were signs at Epcot that outlined the “future site” of the Israeli pavilion. However, those plans never materialized, and eventually, the signs were removed. But you can’t say Epcot removed Israel because they were never really there.

Similarly, an Africa pavilion was announced during the park’s grand opening special; it, too, failed to materialize.

The Countries That Were Almost In Epcot

Pay a visit to the theme park Epcot at Walt Disney World today, and you’ll find eleven countries that are represented at pavilions. But what those eleven countries were going to be was not always so clear. In the past, there were several other pavilions proposed, but for various reasons, they never made it to completion. Despite what some commentators believe, there’s still space at Epcot to add more pavilions — as many as six rumored pavilions have been suggested — so we might see them added in the future. Certainly, the old designs will be lying around somewhere.

The countries that were nearly part of the Epcot World Showcase pavilion are:

  • Israel pavilion
  • Equatorial Africa pavilion (the African outpost was built instead, plus Animal Kingdom includes a huge area devoted to Africa)
  • Soviet Union (Russia pavilion)
  • Costa Rica pavilion
  • Spain pavilion
  • Switzerland pavilion
  • Iran pavilion
  • Denmark
  • United Arab Emirates pavilion
  • Venezuela pavilion

What Countries Are the World Showcase pavilions?

There may (or may not) be plans to add more pavilions to Epcot’s World Showcase in the future, but that doesn’t mean that Epcot necessarily needs more. It’s pretty awesome as it is. So in the meantime, the countries you’ll find at Epcot World Showcase include:

  • Mexico pavilion
  • Norway pavilion
  • China pavilion
  • Germany pavilion
  • Italy pavilion
  • The American Adventure pavilion
  • Japan pavilion
  • Morocco pavilion
  • France pavilion
  • United Kingdom pavilion
  • Canada pavilion

That’s a pretty diverse and fascinating collection of countries! In each country’s pavilion, you’ll find a represented culture of the country through cuisine, architecture, attractions, stores, and the general landscape, which has been designed to reflect the nation. It’s a way to get a taste of what countries around the world are like without having to travel the world.

Plan Your Trip to Walt Disney World Epcot Today

There could be a time when new countries are added to Epcot at Walt Disney World. It’d be about time since they haven’t added a new one since The World Showcase added Norway in 1988. But in any case, the World Showcase and all Disney parks remain awesome places to visit, so begin planning your trip today to get a taste of the world.
