Picking a Disney World hotel sounds fun until you’re comparing price tiers, ways to get to the parks, and which side of the property to stay on. Value, Moderate, Deluxe. Monorail, Skyliner, bus. Magic Kingdom side or EPCOT side. Most of us open a dozen tabs, compare a few room categories, and still aren’t sure which hotel to book.

This Disney World resort roulette is the opposite of that. Answer a few questions (or none at all), spin the wheel, and it lands on one of Disney’s 17 main resorts. It’s a game, but it’s also a decent way to discover a resort you might not have considered.

How the Disney World Resort Roulette Works

There are six questions, and every one has a “Surprise me” option if you’d rather not commit. As you answer, the resorts that don’t fit fade out on the wheel, so you can watch the field shrink. After the last question, the wheel spins and lands on one of the hotels still lit up. If your answers don’t match any single resort, it picks from the closest matches instead.

Here’s what it asks:

  • Budget: keep it budget-friendly, a comfy middle ground, or go all out
  • Home base: which park you want to be closest to, including Disney Springs
  • Getting around: monorail, Skyliner, boat, or on foot
  • Vibe: cartoons and movie magic, island breezes, campfires and wildlife, fancy and elegant, or jazz and world flavor
  • Evenings: fireworks from your resort, a stroll with snacks, animals from the balcony, or pool time
  • Who’s coming: kids in tow, or grown-ups only

Your result shows the resort’s name, a short note on why it landed there, and a quick description.

Which Disney World Hotels Are on the Wheel?

The wheel covers all 17 Disney-owned resorts in the three main price tiers: five Value, four Moderate, and eight Deluxe.

Value Resorts (5)

All-Star Sports, All-Star Music, All-Star Movies, Pop Century, and Art of Animation. These are the best Disney value resorts if you’d rather spend on tickets and dining than a fancy room. The rooms are smaller, and the theming is loud, with giant icons everywhere. Pop Century and Art of Animation share a Skyliner station, which is a nice perk at this price.

Moderate Resorts (4)

Caribbean Beach, Coronado Springs, Port Orleans French Quarter, and Port Orleans Riverside. The Disney moderate resorts usually mean more room, more theming, and better pool areas than Value, without Deluxe prices. Caribbean Beach is the hub of the Skyliner network. Both Port Orleans resorts have a riverside setting.

Deluxe Resorts (8)

Animal Kingdom Lodge, Beach Club, Yacht Club, BoardWalk Inn, Contemporary, Polynesian, Grand Floridian, and Wilderness Lodge. The Disney deluxe resorts get you the best locations and the most polish, and several sit on the monorail or a short walk from a park.

A few things aren’t on the wheel: Disney Vacation Club villas (including the Cabins at Fort Wilderness, now a DVC resort), the Fort Wilderness campsites, and the Swan, Dolphin, and Four Seasons, which other companies run. If you want a kitchen and a lot more space, Disney’s Deluxe Villas are worth a look.

How to Choose a Disney World Hotel (Without a Wheel)

Spinning is fun, but the same few things decide most stays.

Start With How You’ll Get to the Parks

Two hotels at the same price can feel very different once you count the ride. The Contemporary, Polynesian, and Grand Floridian sit on the monorail loop. You can also walk to Magic Kingdom from the Contemporary and the Grand Floridian. Beach Club, Yacht Club, and BoardWalk Inn are a short walk from EPCOT, with boats to Hollywood Studios. Pop Century, Art of Animation, and Caribbean Beach have the Skyliner. Wilderness Lodge uses a boat to Magic Kingdom.

Most of the rest, including the All-Stars, Coronado Springs, and Animal Kingdom Lodge, rely on buses. The Port Orleans boats, on the other hand, go to Disney Springs, not the parks. A Disney World transportation map makes it much easier to see how all of that connects.

Decide What the Room Is Worth to You

Value, Moderate, and Deluxe aren’t a quality ladder so much as a set of trade-offs. Value saves money and gives up space. Deluxe buys location and polish. Whatever you skip on the room can go to tickets and dining. Only you know how you like to split it. It helps to add up the whole trip before you fall for a resort. A Disney World cost calculator does the math for you.

Think About Who’s Coming

Kids usually care about pools and theming. For example, Beach Club and Yacht Club share Stormalong Bay, which we rank at the top of the best pools at Disney World. All-Star Music and Art of Animation have fun family suites. Grown-ups tend to care more about dining, quiet, and atmosphere.

When to Trust the Spin (and When Not To)

Trust it when you’re stuck between a few good options and need a nudge. It’s also great if you always book the same resort and want a reason to try something new.

Skip it if you need a specific room type, a ground-floor room, or a Skyliner ride for a stroller. Then go straight to a resort comparison, where you can check those details side by side.

The wheel also can’t see prices. A resort that looks like a bargain can jump around a holiday week, so check rates for your dates before you get attached.

FAQ: Disney World Resort Roulette

Does the wheel include every Disney World hotel?

No. It has the 17 Disney-owned Value, Moderate, and Deluxe resorts. Disney Vacation Club villas (including the Fort Wilderness cabins), the Fort Wilderness campsites, Swan, Dolphin, and Four Seasons aren’t on it.

Can I get the same resort twice?

Yes. That usually means your answers left only a few resorts in play. Set a question back to “Surprise me” and spin again.

Is the wheel a good way to choose a resort?

It’s the fun way. If you land on a hotel you hadn’t thought about, that’s a good reason to look into it more closely.

Does the wheel know current prices or availability?

No. It’s a random picker, not a booking tool.

What if I don’t like my result?

Spin again, or press Start over and change an answer. Nothing you pick is locked in.

Rates and availability change by date, and comparing two or three hotels for your exact week takes time. That’s where Disney travel planners earn their keep. We send readers to The Vacationeer, a Diamond-Level EarMarked by Disney Authorized Travel Agency. There’s no planning fee. They price your resort against a couple of backups and book your tickets and dining. They also keep watching for a better rate after you put down a deposit.
